COMPLETE ENT VISIT, AUDIOMETRY AND OTONEUROSURGERY
The complete ENT visit at the Otological Group consists of a specialist visit performed by an otolaryngologist aimed at highlighting, excluding, or monitoring the presence of diseases affecting the ear, nose, and throat. Various ENT exams are very useful for diagnosing the pathologies that affect these organs, which are different in anatomy but functionally related, in order to define the most suitable treatment methods.
During the visit, which begins with the patient’s medical history (clinical history, lifestyle, habits, previous surgeries, etc.), the specialist may request to review any previous tests performed (blood tests, imaging diagnostics) by the patient.
During the visit, the specialist may subject the patient to a more thorough examination by performing a speech audiometry test to assess the degree of word comprehension and a pure tone audiometry test to quantitatively measure hearing ability. The Otoneurosurgery exam aims to prevent, diagnose, and treat both outpatient and surgically diagnosed pathologies within the scope of ENT that require surgical intervention using the most modern surgical techniques with the aid of the most innovative methods and complementary imaging diagnostics, minimally invasive, and endoscopic surgery. The main and most common pathologies that require a complete visit at the Otological Group are:
- acoustic neuromas;
- hearing aids and cochlear implants;
- meningiomas;
- paragangliomas;
- cholesteatomas of the petrous bone (chronic cholesteatomatous otitis media);
- ear tumors glomus, tympanic, tympanojugular, carotid, and cerebellopontine angle;
- benign and malignant tumors of the acoustic nerve and facial nerve;
- primary and secondary malignant tumors of the temporal bone;
- pathologies of the inner ear (Menière’s disease, vestibular rehabilitation, sudden hearing loss, autoimmune hearing loss, genetic hearing loss) that need to be addressed in all diagnostic and therapeutic aspects;
- cervico-facial oncological surgery includes the treatment of benign and malignant neoplasms of the nasal cavities, oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, salivary glands, thyroid, and parathyroids with innovative conservative and reconstructive surgical techniques;
- reconstructive surgery of the auricle in microtia.
Casa di Cura Piacenza is the first center in Italy dedicated ultra-specialistically to ear diseases and cranial base and boasts the presence of 7 state-of-the-art audiometric booths, allowing these exams to be performed in the best possible way.
Patient Preparation
It is highly recommended that the patient bring all routine tests performed at the request of their primary care physician (blood test, urine test, etc.) and a note of the names of any medications taken daily or recently during the visit with the specialist.
