ORL DIAGNOSIS OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY
In Casa di Cura Piacenza the Otological Group is the first Center in Italy dedicated to ultra-specialized diagnosis and treatment of ear diseases, cranial base, paranasal sinuses, and head-neck district. The Otological Group consists of a team of highly specialized doctors and support staff equipped with the best devices on the market, aiming for excellence in patient care.
The success achieved by the Center has led it to be recognized as one of the most important institutes in the world for Otological Surgery and cranial base surgery, receiving patients from all countries. The Center is also internationally recognized for surgical training in the field of Otological, Otoneurosurgical, and cranial base surgery, receiving fellows both Italian and foreign with the aim of learning on the field from the best specialists of the Otological Group.
The Prof. Mario Sanna and the surgeons of the Otological Group are able to perform all surgeries on: ear pathologies, cranial base, neurotological procedures, reconstructive surgery, endoscopic procedures on the paranasal sinuses and anterior cranial base, and oncological surgeries of the head-neck district. Among the surgeries with the highest case numbers nationwide: paragangliomas, cholesteatomas of the petrous bone, and neuromas.
The Otological Group has been recognized as the first ORL Center in Italy both for middle ear care and for cochlear implants
. It boasts the presence of many modern audiometric booths capable of performing a better and more in-depth acoustic evaluation through exams conducted with the most up-to-date software
. The largest booth, recently installed, features high soundproofing, seven internal speakers, a wall with sound-absorbing panels, and the ability to use ultra-modern software that allows for a wider resolution in audiometric tests. The specialists of the Otological Group specialized in vestibular diseases, such as
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), deal with the diagnosis and therapy of balance disorders and vertigo.
In Casa di Cura Piacenza there is an entire Center dedicated to neurotological diagnostics, named Vestibolar Centre, which also includes the study of evoked potentials and vestibular instrumental tests.
It boasts the presence of a gym exclusively dedicated to vestibular rehabilitation, or “balance physiotherapy”.
Patient Preparation
No special preparation rules are required for the patient, but the doctor may advise bringing all documentation regarding other in-depth exams to be performed (magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography - CT scan, etc.).
