Vestibolar Centre: a point of reference for patients with instability, vertigo and ear deficits<\/h2>\n

The Gruppo Otologico<\/strong><\/a>, founded and directed by prof. Mario Sanna<\/strong><\/a>, in Casa di Cura Piacenza<\/strong> is Centre of excellence<\/strong> for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ear, skull base, and paranasal sinuses. It is a real prestige for Piacenza<\/strong> to host the most important and leading institute for the number of cochlear implant operations<\/strong><\/a> and middle ear <\/strong><\/a> according to the Ministry of Health’s National Outomes Plans (PNE)<\/strong> del Ministero della Salute.<\/p>\n

Al proprio interno troviamo anche il Centro Vestibolar<\/strong><\/a>, altra eccellenza che si rivolge alla diagnosi<\/strong>, terapia<\/strong> e riabilitazione vestibolare<\/strong><\/a> per le patologie legate all\u2019equilibrio <\/strong>e che nasce nel 2021 con l’obiettivo di creare un ambiente hi-tech<\/strong><\/a> per superare vertigini e perdita di equilibrio, disturbi che ogni anno interessano almeno il 20-30% della popolazione italiana.<\/p>\n

The Centre is directd by dott. Anna Lisa Giannuzzi<\/strong><\/a> and dott. Elisabetta Rebecchi<\/strong><\/a> who coordinate a team of doctrors <\/strong> and physuitherapists<\/strong>; The gym is equipped<\/strong> with highly specialised machines for rehabilitation <\/strong>and functional re-education<\/strong>.

Vertigo: a definition<\/h2>\n

La vertigine<\/strong><\/a> \u00e8 una patologia molto diffusa, \u00e8 il terzo motivo di accesso al Pronto Soccorso<\/strong>, pu\u00f2 presentarsi in modo continuo o episodico e con diversa intensit\u00e0.
\nSpesso viene erroneamente definita labirintite<\/strong>; in realt\u00e0 \u00e8 un sintomo che deve essere studiato perch\u00e9 pu\u00f2 rimandare a diverse cause: vertigine parossistica posizionale benigna<\/strong><\/a>, malattia di Meni\u00e8re<\/strong><\/a>, neurite vestibolare<\/strong>, emicrania vestibolare<\/strong>, presbiastasia<\/strong> (invecchiamento del sistema dell\u2019equilibrio), patologie a carico del sistema nervoso centrale, esito di interventi chirurgici.<\/p>\n

Characteristic symptoms of vertigo<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The symptoms that the patient generally complains of are: instability, insecurity of movement, difficulty with rapid head movements, altered perception of the body in space, oscillation of the visual field, fear of falling. All this results in impairment, even severe, of autonomy and quality of life. <\/p>\n

Vestibology: what is it?<\/h2>\n

Vestibology<\/strong><\/a> is a branch of Otolaryngology <\/a><\/strong>that studies the vestibular apparatus<\/strong>, which is a portion of the inner ear that regulates balance based on the position of the head and body in space by sending information to the brain. When balance presents problems, these may be due to peripheral pathologies, central pathologies or physiological ageing. Therapy is not always pharmacological; in fact, vestibular rehabilitation is balance physiotherapy<\/strong>. Through a programme<\/strong> of specific<\/strong>, customised exercises<\/strong>, the aim is to restore correct communication between the systems that regulate balance (inner ear, sight, self-perception in space).<\/p>\n

Vestibular Centre: vestibular rehabilitation<\/h2>\n

The Vestibolar<\/a><\/strong> is the most advanced Vestibular Rehabilitation and Re-education Centre<\/strong> for the treatment of vertigo<\/strong><\/a> and balance disorders. Vestibular rehabilitation is balance physiotherapy.
\n The centre features a gymnasium with highly specialised equipment<\/strong>.
\nVisual and sound sensors, monitoring systems and interactive devices are applied to common equipment such as treadmills<\/strong>, parallel<\/strong> bars and proprioceptive mats<\/strong>; there is also a stabilometric platform<\/strong> that processes static<\/strong> and dynamic posture examination<\/strong>.
\nThe equipment is used both for diagnosis and to implement customised rehabilitation programmes<\/strong>.
\nFinally, the patient can continue training at home by renting a tablet with a dedicated app and remote control.<\/p>\n

The vestibular examination<\/a><\/b> is a diagnostic assessment<\/b> that evaluates and diagnoses the function of the balance<\/b> organ located in the inner ear<\/b>.<\/p>\n
