the Gruppo Otologico<\/strong> was founded in 1983 in Piacenza by Dott. Mario Sanna<\/strong>, an internationally renowned and respected surgeon as a pioneer of modern skull base surgery<\/strong>, is today the leading centre in Italy <\/strong>for the number of cochlear implant and middle ear surgery<\/strong> operations (according to the Ministry of Health’s PNE survey data).The centre specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ear, skull base, paranasal sinuses and head and neck region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Il Gruppo Otologico is recognised as one of the world’s leading institutes for Otological<\/strong> and Skull Base Surgery<\/strong>, receiving patients from all countries.
\nThe Centre is also recognised as a reference point<\/strong> for surgical training<\/strong> in Otology, Otoneurosurgery<\/strong> and Skull Base<\/strong>; in fact, more than 153 courses<\/strong> have currently been organised with more than 3,400 participants<\/strong>, 80% of whom are foreigners.
\nThe specialists of the Gruppo Otologico are able to perform all ear operations, skull base, as well as neurotological and reconstructive procedures, endoscopic interventions on the paranasal sinuses and anterior skull base, and oncological interventions in the head and neck region (e.g. rare tumours such as paragangliomas, cholesteatomas, neurinomas).
\nThe Gruppo Otologico<\/strong> is continuously active in research<\/strong> and publication of more than 450 articles<\/strong> in national and international scientific journals and 18 books written in English (translated into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Polish and Spanish), which have become study manuals worldwide
\nAt Gruppo Otologico we believe in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach<\/strong> to treating patients; this means synthesising several medical and surgical disciplines to find the best solution to be adapted to the patient’s specific needs, even in the face of rare and complex clinical situations<\/strong>.
\nThe collaboration between Otolaryngologists, Otologists, Skull Base Surgeons, Neurosurgeons, Neuroradiologists, Anaesthetists and Maxillofacial Surgeons is the basis of this vision.
\nThe nursing staff is highly experienced and qualified in following patients through every stage of treatment of patients undergoing Otological and Skull Base Surgery, providing care and services with the greatest possible attention.
\nThe administrative staff is the first interface with patients and, with competence and kindness, manages to offer a complete mapping of the pathway offered to patients.
\nThe Gruppo Otologico is also the headquarters of the Italian Neurotology Association (A.I.N.OT), recognised by the European Association of Otology & Neurotology (EAONO) for clinical training in Europe.<\/p>\n

Our resoults<\/strong>
\nThe case history of the Gruppo Otologico can boast a very large number of interventions: more then 35.000 middle ear surgery, <\/strong>oltre 4.000 acoustic neuromas<\/a>, <\/strong>over <\/b>8.000 cholesteatoma surgery of the middle ear and temporal petrous rock<\/b><\/a>, <\/strong>over 150 facial nerve tumor surgery<\/a>,<\/strong>over 5.400 skull base surgery, <\/strong>over 1.000 cochlear implant surgeries\u00a0 and <\/a><\/strong>over 700 <\/a>of paragangliomas<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Gruppo Otologico is present at numerous congresses worldwide and in 2023 organised the \u201cFirst International Congress Head and Neck Paragangliomas\u201d<\/b><\/em> in Piacenza, which was attended by more than 350 participants from 23 different countries<\/p>\n
